About This Piece

An impressive antique French sterling silver chocolate or coffee cup and saucer, c. 1900, by Ravinet & Denfert (Louis Ravinet & Charles Denfert), Paris. Decorated in the Rococo manner with delicate shells on the top and bottom of the cup handle, flowers adorning the top of the cartouche, and a flowing script monogram. The cup and saucer are quite large — a most impressive set at 7 troy ounces.

Hallmarks & Provenance

French sterling silver, .950, 1st Titre. Marked with the Minerva 1st Titre mark and maker’s punch (un trèfle/clover) for Ravinet & Denfert (Louis Ravinet & Charles Denfert), 83 Rue du Temple, Paris (active 1891–1912).
