About This Piece
An antique English Georgian sterling silver fruit and dessert service for six with mother of pearl handles, c. 1824–1833, by John Law of Sheffield. Twelve pieces with original presentation case. The sterling forks and knives have a plain design typical of the Georgian era; the pearl handles are square with canted edges. A refined and complete service.
Hallmarks & Provenance
English sterling silver. Marked with the Lion Passant for sterling and the Monarch’s mark (used only until 1833), with maker’s mark for John Law (mark entered Sheffield, 1824). Date mark and assay town worn but the combination of marks places the set firmly between 1824 and 1833.

Condition
Overall very good. One handle has a stable crack (tested under pressure). Normal usage marks on fork tines and knife blades. Wood presentation case in good condition; the lock is in the closed position so the lid does not fit tight — needs a minor adjustment.
