About This Piece
An antique Victorian silver plate condiment holder in the form of a well-modelled retriever or hunting dog holding a basket — a unique and artistic way to serve salt, dry mustard, or cayenne pepper at table. Its realistic figural design adds a luxurious, sculptural touch to any dinner setting.
These condiment sets are rarely encountered; others of the type had a carrier that fitted over the dog’s back with two additional condiment dishes, attached by unscrewing the handle on top. A popular contemporary designer recently recreated a similar pair for a well-known decorating website — this one is the genuine antique.
