About This Piece
A pair of antique French tole shield plaques, hand-painted in blue and gold with the coronet of a Count — a pearl-bearing coronet — and a gold armorial device with gold-trimmed edges. Possibly used to hold flags for a processional. Just in from France, these would make exceptional covers for a pair of wall sconces, or displayed together as a striking armorial installation. Having two makes the impact considerably greater.
Provenance
French, c. 1910. Acquired in France.
