A fine antique Gorham sterling silver hip flask with removable gilt-lined cup, c. 1898. Silver, glass, and leather combine for a handsome and functional flask from one of America’s most celebrated silver companies — Gorham, founded by Jabez Gorham in 1831 and the largest silver company in the US at the time. The cup is monogrammed and inscribed with the date June 23, 1898. Flask tested and confirmed water tight; lid lifts off with a snap and holds tight. Cork appears to have been replaced.

Hallmarks & Provenance

American sterling silver. Marked for Gorham: Lion, Anchor, and G (marks used in the last quarter of the 19th century), consistent with the inscribed date of 1898.

Condition

Very good. Leather in very good condition with a few surface scuffs and normal marks from use. Flask is water tight. A few minor dings on the top in accordance with age and use. Cork appears to have been replaced.
