About This Piece

A fine American sterling silver collapsible traveling cup with sterling case and ornate handle, c. 1900, by George W. Shiebler of New York. Devised for sporting events, picnics, and travel — the case opens and the cup pulls up in a telescoping fashion; the handle closes down against the side for stability, and after use the cup collapses back into the silver case. A beautifully engineered and highly collectible piece at 108 grams. The Shiebler firm, known for high-quality sterling and mixed-metal hollowware, was dissolved in 1910.
