About This Piece
An antique cold painted inkwell featuring a small bird nestled in a silver metal eggshell. The shell, with its cracked design, is attached to an egg that opens to reveal the inkwell within. The small bird is painted in shades of brown with gilt accents, with fine expressive details on its face — a charming and whimsical object of the highest quality.
Hallmarks & Provenance
Marked on the bottom for Geschützt (protected/patented), c. 1900. The bronze is of the highest quality associated with Vienna Bronzes, with superb modeling and expression. Possibly made by Bergmann, one of the most celebrated makers of Viennese cold painted bronzes.

Condition
