About This Piece
An antique American sterling silver cheese scoop by Frank W. Smith, with a pierced handle in a floral and acanthus leaf motif. The pattern is similar to Dominick & Haff’s Trianon, though the pierced work is less open and the floral and acanthus elements are more closely worked — a subtly distinctive design. A lovely soft warm patina adds to its character.
Hallmarks & Provenance
American sterling silver, c. 1890. Marked for Frank W. Smith, Gardner, MA (active 1886–1950s). Notably, Arthur Stone — one of America’s most celebrated Arts & Crafts silversmiths — worked for Smith in the early years of the business as a designer before establishing his own silver company.
