About This Piece

An antique French sterling silver egg cup, beautifully decorated in the Guilloché manner. The cartouche on the front is elegantly monogrammed in script with the initials "SC" — a perfectly refined way to enjoy one’s breakfast egg.

Hallmarks & Provenance

French sterling silver, .950, mid-19th century. Marked with the Minerva 1st standard mark (in use after 1838) and the maker’s mark of Nicolas Vautrin, active 1844–1862. The mark shows a crescent over two stars with a pellet between the letters N and V — the two stars are visible; the crescent is worn.
