About This Piece
An antique English sterling silver and gilt-lined pepper pot or salt shaker, London 1829. This early 19th century Georgian piece has a half-fluted design around the body, raised on a round pedestal base engraved with a crest or armorial, with gadrooned details on the top. A fine and substantial piece at 91 grams.
Hallmarks & Provenance
English sterling silver, London, 1829. Marked with the Lion Passant for .925 silver, the Crowned Leopard’s Head for London, the Monarch’s Head duty mark, and date letter "O" for 1829. Maker’s mark worn but appears to be IJ, possibly John Jones III.
