French Decorative Arts- Palais Royal Jewelry Box with Hand-painted Portrait
A French gilt bronze dresser box or jewelry casket from the late 19th Century. Beautifully embellished with rope trim around the edges of the lid and four applied embellishments with Bell Flower details. The panel around the serpentine shaped casket is decorate with Acanthus leaves.
The lid is decorated with a hand painted miniature portrait of a French Aristocrat; or most likely Marie Antoinette. The portrait has been hand signed and is under glass.
During the 19th century in the Palais Royal shops of Paris boxes such as this one were bought by travelers as a reminder of the “Grand Tour “. The box is in very good condition as is lined in velvet.

The box is in very good condition; the hinge is in good working order along with the clasp. A small dent on the bottom of the box is the only item to note
