About This Piece

A French silver writing or desk set comprising four pieces with original case, c. 1890. A letter opener, letter seal, pencil, and dip pen are all decorated with a holly and berries motif. The dip pen features an 18k gold nib. A beautifully cohesive set for a distinguished desk.

Hallmarks & Provenance

French silver, .800. Marked with the Boar’s Head mark for .800 silver. Maker’s mark present but small and difficult to decipher.

Condition

Very good. A few dings on the pencil sleeve and a dark spot on one side of the letter opener blade — all in keeping with age and use. The seal leans slightly to one side but stands on its own. Seal has no inscription. Presentation case shows some wear from age. Condition has been taken into consideration in the pricing.
