About This Piece
An antique French tole plaque in the form of a shield, hand-painted in black and silver with a star, crossed branches, and a dog holding a flaming torch. The symbolism is still being researched and may possibly represent a family shield or armorial device. A holder on the reverse may have been used to carry a processional flag.
Just in from France — an exceptional candidate for a wall sconce cover, or displayed as a striking decorative object in its own right.
