French Silver Wine Tags & Decanter Label-Bar-Ware

A refined large 19th-century French sterling silver .(950 standard) decanter label or ticket, crafted with restrained styling and engraved initials on the curved label.  The initals are "AD".   Designed to hold a handwritten identification card, the label slides neatly into place, allowing the contents of a decanter to be displayed with personalization and clarity.  These fine French labels from the early 1800's are not found easily.   Excellent decanter label for the collector.

Fully hallmarked, the piece bears French silver marks for Paris along with the Vieillard (Old Man) mark with numeral “1”, denoting the highest French silver standard (.950 purity). This mark was in use from 1819 to 1838.  The maker's punch is being researched.

Such labels were traditionally used in formal dining and service settings, adding both practicality and refinement to the table or bar.
