About This Piece
A pair of late Victorian English sterling silver canister-shaped salt and pepper shakers in their original presentation box, hallmarked London 1899. The pair have raised stepped flared bases and finial-shaped tops, with gilt interiors on both base and top. A beautifully complete and giftable set.
Hallmarks & Provenance
English sterling silver, London, 1899. Marked with the Lion Passant for .925 silver, London assay town mark, date letter for 1899, and maker’s mark H over W&Co over Ld in a quatrefoil for Horace Woodward & Co Ltd. The company was founded in the mid-19th century by George Cartwright and acquired by the well-known firm of Adie Brothers Ltd in 1919. Hallmarks appear on both tops and bottoms.

Condition
Good. No splits or dings noted. Minor surface scratches in accordance with age and use. Some tarnish remains on the tops and a few spots on the bases. Minor loss of gilt wash. Presentation box in very good condition.
