English Sterling Silver Wine Tag or Decanter Label | With Earl's Coronet Motif
A fine quality Victorian solid sterling silver wine decanter label, fully hallmarked for London, 1866, with the respected maker’s mark of Hunt & Roskell.
Elegantly designed, the label features an Earl’s coronet to the terminal — suggesting a possible special commission — lending the piece an aristocratic character. The reverse is fitted with a discreet slot allowing a specific wine or spirit label to be inserted, making it both practical and personal.
The craftsmanship is precise and well balanced, characteristic of mid-Victorian silver from London’s finest workshops. These silversmiths succeeded Paul Storr's business and used some of Storr's original dies. Paul Storr was the most famous silversmith of the Georgian period.
